We have over ten years of experience providing consulting services to California Utilities as well as research organizations, commercial, and institutional clients. NegaWatt is a San Diego-based, California-DGS certified Small Business (#1749103). We serve California and all other Western States.

Our Specialties

NegaWatt Consulting has a passion for all things energy, sustainability and emerging technology. We support our utility clients with technical studies that include EM&V, Work Papers, State and Federal Energy Rulemaking, and more. We assist owners and architects to optimize existing and new buildings with respect to energy and sustainability. This includes end-to-end LEED certification, commissioning, energy calculations, and decision support for designers and engineers.

EISG Program Awardee — We understand Innovation

NegaWatt Consulting was awarded in research and development funding by the California Energy Commission as part of the Energy Innovations Small Grant Program in 2013 and 2015. We subsequently developed an innovative control strategy for buildings with rooftop air conditioning that demonstrated over 25% savings. Bottom line — we can help you succeed with your ideas.

Marc Esser

Principal Project Engineer & Owner, MS (Computer Science & Renewable Energy)

Marc holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Renewable Energy Physics. He was born in Germany, a country known for excellence in engineering and attention to detail. He upholds these values in everything NegaWatt does. Outside of work, Marc enjoys spending time with his two kids, his cat Einstein, concerts, photography, triathlons, backpacking, and European cars. If only there were more time. But clients always come first.

Bo White

Principal Project Engineer & Codes and Standards Analyst, MS (Mechanical Engineering), PE (Mechanical), LEED AP, CBCP

Bo has lived in San Diego since 2005 and in California most of his life. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from UCSD. Bo is a Licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical). He is also accredited as a LEED AP, AEE Certified Building Commissioning Professional, and ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional. Bo qualified for his first Boston marathon in 2020.

 
 

Chris Kuch

Principal Codes & Standards Analyst, BS (Mechanical Engineering), P.E. (Mechanical)

Chris is a highly accomplished Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer with an extensive background in building systems and construction, boasting an impressive 20-year track record in the industry. With a strong focus on building energy codes and standards at Federal, State and Local levels, Zero Net Energy construction, building electrification and decarbonization strategies, and energy efficiency technology, Chris has established himself as a leading expert in the field.

He lives in Los Angeles with his family.

Eric Martinez

Senior Project Engineer, BS (Electrical Engineering)

Eric has pursued his passion in clean energy by evaluating, developing, and manufacturing clean energy technologies. At San Diego Gas and Electric, he worked on advanced grid-scale components and systems as well as on emerging technologies for commercial and industrial utility customers. After this, he led his team to develop a low-cost flywheel energy storage system at Quantum Energy Storage and Omnes Energy. Eric has a BS in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and was honored with the Student of the Year in Electrical Engineering Award in 2009.

 

Gina Lindsay

Sr. Codes & Standards Analyst, BA (Business Administration)

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Gina developed a love of natural spaces and the environment since early childhood. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii. Gina has been supporting energy efficiency programs and projects since 2007 with a wide range of activities from business development to technical writing. Her work in this space reflects her values for contributing meaningfully to advancing climate goals. Gina lives in Portland, Oregon where she occasionally sneaks away to explore the area’s mountains and lakes with her dog Neko.

 

Matt Dupuis

Sr. Project Engineer / Power BI Developer, ME and BS from Florida State University

Matt grew up in Florida, and now lives and thrives in Washington, D.C. He is the founder of Dupuis Analytics. Matt has 12 years of experience with dashboards, in particular Microsoft Power BI. He and his developers have been an integral part of our team since we began doing them. His team is the #1 rated Power BI team on Upwork. If anyone knows what they’re doing, it’s them. Our clients eyes light up when they see the maps and charts Matt comes up with, and there has yet to be a requirement he can’t figure out.

 

Jessica Thornton

Data Specialist, Project & Budget Manager

Jessica is the backbone of everything that requires coordination and attention to detail at NegaWatt. She helps us with project management, event coordination, online research, manual downloads where the scripts fail, refreshing data tables and power BI dashboards, writing user documentation, and last but not least, budget tracking. If it needs to be accurate to the penny, her phone is the one that rings. Jessica lives in Las Vegas with her husband.

 

Dan Pennebacker

Sr. Project Engineer / Tadabase Developer

At his core, Dan is an educator of computer science inspiring students to solve problems. With a degree in accounting from Temple University, a graduate degree in education from Gwynedd Mercy University and a PhD pursuit from Lehigh University, Dan laid a solid framework for solving his clients business and IT problems. Specializing in web development and Tadabase application design, Dan enjoys calling upon his diverse set of education to creatively solve and implement client projects. Outside of technology, Dan enjoys skiing, climbing and getting lost exploring mountains with his wife Jen, daughter Lyla and dog Kebo.

 

Shubham Attri

Project Engineer, MS (Systems Engineering & Analytics)

Shubham joins us out of University of Wisconsin, with a Master’s Degree, and a Certification in Energy Analysis and Policy. He also holds degrees in Industrial Engineering and Energy Systems from India. He is a skilled developer and data analyst, with experience in Python, Power BI, and Tableau. He has worked on projects for organizations like EPRI and the National Solar Energy Foundation. When not doing magic at the computer, Shubham plays badminton and cricket at every possibly opportunity.

 

Jessica Frenkel

Sustainability Consultant, MS (Sustainability), LEED AP BD+C, LFA

Jessica has always been fascinated by the intersection between people and place and the impact the built environment can have on both human and natural worlds. She holds a MS in Sustainability from Lipscomb University. Jessica’s background in green building for commercial architecture informs her approach to finding site-specific strategies to increase design resiliency in the built environment. Jessica is LFA and LEED AP accredited and spends her free time outside, exploring the trails and crags of the Southeast.

NegaWatt Consulting has partnered with BEF to balance the environmental footprint we cannot avoid.

Through the purchase of Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) purchased from BEF, we ensure that all our electricity use is offset by U.S.-based renewable resources.

Verified Carbon Offsets purchased from BEF balance the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations, including business travel.
